General - Frequently Asked Questions

How many classes do I need to take to get the certificate?
The certificate is comprised of five classes each worth 3 graduate credits for a total of 15 credits.
Which classes do I need to take?
  • EDC G 610 Computers, Technology, and Education
  • EDCG611 Internet Application for Educators
  • EDCG612 Evaluation and Design of Educational Software
  • SPEG684 Computers in Special Education
  • EDCG689 Teacher Research
Do I have to take the classes in a certain order?
Although the only requirement is that EDCG610 be taken before EDCG612, the recommended sequence is EDCG610, EDCG611, EDCG612, and EDCG689 with SPEG684 taken at any point in this sequence.
How much will the graduate certificate program cost?
The graduate certificate is 5 courses each worth 3 credits for a total of 15 credits. For a list of the most current fees, see http://ccde.umb.edu/moreinfo/registration/fees/ Make sure you are looking at the graduate level online course fees (unless you are taking a face to face class), all the service fees and any other associated fees, and, for new students, a one-time new student fee.
I already have an initial license in another field. Once I complete the certificate, can I get an Instructional Technology license as an additional license?
The courses in the graduate certificate cover all six competencies required by the Massachusetts Department of Education (MA DOE). Unless your initial license is in a field for all levels (K-12), you will also need to take a course in human development. EDCG644 satisfies this requirement. For the most up-to-date information about MA DOE’s requirements for an additional license, see http://www.doe.mass.edu/ and scroll down to "Educators earning a new license in a new field at a new level."
