Art Gallery

This student-run gallery exhibits professional and student work. It is located on the first floor of McCormack Hall.

Athletics

A current, valid UMass Boston ID is required for entrance to all University athletic facilities.

Bookstore

Books for all credit courses offered on or off campus may be purchased in the Campus Center, UL (Upper Level). Books may also be purchased online.

Cafeteria

Computer Labs & other Tech Facilities

The University provides a number of on-campus labs as well as general tech support. The University also provides Wi-Fi accessibility in certain parts of the campus.

Disability Services

The Ross Center for Disability Services provides a full range of support services including: note taking, reading on tape, interpreting for students who are deaf, administering exams with accommodation to disability, counseling, and more. All students with disabilities and the entire University community are welcome to visit and inquire about our many services and resources. Online students with disabilities should contact the Ross Center if accommodation is needed.

Game Room

Video games and pool tables are available in the recreation room located in the Upper Level of the Campus Center.

Health Services

The University Health Services offers outpatient medical care, counseling, health education, and mental health programs for all enrolled students.

Housing

The Office of Student Housing helps prospective and currently enrolled UMass Boston students, and other members of the University community, find places to live. The service, which operates free of charge, maintains listings of Boston-area rooms, apartments, and houses for rent, and listings of students looking for roommates.

ID Cards

ID cards may be obtained through the I.D. Office in the Student Life Office (Campus Center, 3rd floor). Students must present a valid driver’s license, passport, or other official form of photo identification when requesting ID cards. Note: Students taking off-campus and weekend courses receive a special ID card. This card permits the holder to use the facilities of the Healey Library, but it does not provide access to the University’s athletic facilities, health services, or fee-supported student activities.

Joiner Center Summer Programs

The William Joiner Center for the Study of War and Social Consequences offers two annual summer programs.

The Summer Institute for War and Social Consequences (June 24-26, 2008) is designed for high school teachers teaching about the Vietnam War. For more information on the Institute, contact Paul Atwood at 617.287.5850 or paul.atwood@umb.edu.

Library

The Joseph P. Healey Library contains approximately 500,000 volumes and currently subscribes to more than 3,700 popular and scholarly periodicals. The library is centrally located on the UMass Boston campus plaza, easily accessible from the catwalk that connects all buildings on campus.

Parking

Parking is available in outside lots. Operators of all vehicles except motorcycles must pay $6.00 per day to park on campus (motorcycles: $3.00 per day). Prepaid discount passes are available and may be purchased at the UMass Bookstore or at the Parking & Transportation Office.

Public Transportation

Free and frequent shuttlebus service is provided between the University and JFK/UMass Station on the MBTA Red Line. Buses following MBTA Routes 8 and 16 also stop at the University.

Public Safety

The UMass Boston Public Safety Department is charged with the responsibility of helping to provide a safe and secure environment in which faculty, students, and staff will be able to teach, learn, and work. The Department’s Administrative Office and Communications Center are located on the Plaza Level of the Quinn Administration Building. The main number for the Public Safety Office is 617.287.7799. Routine service requests for police and security services can be made on 617.287.7799 and 7.7781. For all emergencies on campus, dial 911. However, emergency calls made by cell phone must use 617.287.1212.

Sailing Program

Sailing instruction is offered. Appropriate certification is awarded according to the level of proficiency achieved. Ten Mercury sailboats, five Lasers, three Club 420s, and three Olympic-class Solangs are available at the sailing dock at Fox Point Pavilion, directly across the street from the campus.

All students receive a default email account. This is the email address through which the university will convey important notices and messages, so it is important that you understand how to use your account.
